Change It Before It Becomes a Problem

"Susan has cost me 3 employees this year...." My client Ed called me this morning (names changed). Ed's MVP quit, because his manager (Susan) is way to blunt. So, we assessed & came up with a plan.

Here is the assessment: Susan was right, and Ed and his MVP were wrong. Susan is a bean counter, and saw how the MVP was losing the company money. Ed saw it too and let it slide. Things worsened and Ed took too long to handle it. Because Ed wasn't direct enough, things didn't change. So, Susan took the initiative to fix things herself, spoke too directly to the MVP, and the MVP quit. She had to because Ed made the mistake of not challenging the behavior of his MVP, so his MVP kept costing Ed time and money.  

Our plan going forward is for Ed to make changes earlier before they become a problem. Most people run from their problems, avoid them, or ignore them. Ignore some problems and they cost you money, ignore other problems and they cost you your company.
